Thuparamaya is the first Buddhist stupa built in Sri Lanka after the introduction of Buddhism by Arahat Mahinda Thero during the reign of King Devanampiya Tissa in the 3rd century BCE. It enshrines the sacred collarbone relic of Lord Buddha. The stupa's design has changed over time, but its significance remains unaltered. The site attracts thousands of pilgrims who pay homage to the relics of the Buddha. The ruins surrounding the stupa provide insight into the architectural advancements of the ancient Anuradhapura Kingdom.
