In 1941, the Mirihana Temple was a humble establishment, comprising just a small room and a small hall. This modest location would soon become a pivotal center of educational transformation, thanks to the visionary efforts of Venerable Kithalagama Pannasara Thero. After establishing the Vivekarama Temple, the Venerable Thero saw beyond the temple's physical limitations and recognized its potential as a catalyst for community development and learning.Driven by a profound commitment to education, the Venerable Thero initiated several groundbreaking educational institutions using the temple as his central point.
Venerable Kithalagama Pannasara Thero transformed this modest space into an educational hub, establishing three key institutions: Sri Rohana Dhamma School, Sri Rohana Maha Bodhi Vidyalaya (now Stanley Thilakarathna Vidyalaya), and the Mirihana Vivekarama Night English School. The Sri Rohana Dhamma School was officially inaugurated on February 6, 1949, marking the beginning of his significant educational legacy. His contributions to education were profound, turning a simple temple into a center of learning and opportunity for the local community.
